WHY GO?

This hike is a steep then gradual ascent to mountain lakes surrounded by a meadow of wildflowers and majestic, jutting Governors Ridge.

Elevation gain: 1,520 feet

Distance: 7.0 miles out and back; 8.8-mile shuttle

Difficulty: Moderate

Hiking time: About 4 hours

Season: Mid-July–Sept

Fees and permits: Vehicle or individual entry fee (7 days); annual entry pass available. Wilderness camping permits (free); reservations (fee) recommended.

Nearest town: Greenwater

Options: To hike one way along the Owyhigh Lakes Trail to WA 123, you must first leave a shuttle car at the Deer Creek trailhead. From the northern entrance to the park, drive south on WA 410 to the junction with WA 123. Stay to the right (southbound), turning onto WA 123. Follow this road for 5.1 miles. Watch for a sign for Deer Creek just before a widening of the road and a hiking sign. If doing the shuttle, leave a car in the pull-off on the left (east), and then drive to the Owyhigh Lakes trailhead to begin the hike.
